Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Shift Fire and Safety Technician to join our team at our plant in Orange, Texas.  #HPCP

 

Position requires the ability to climb, bend, lift and perform a wide range of physical activities; ability to work at various heights, entry into confined space, work in various weather conditions and ability to listen and follow instructions. Must follow all plant safety guidelines and policies, which includes the wearing of fire-retardant clothing and other personal protective equipment (PPE). 

 

Responsibilities

  • Responds to fires, EMS, rescue and other emergencies including mutual aid using the appropriate equipment.
  • Supports the Incident Management Team (IMT). 
  • Evaluates appropriate strategies and tactics to align with incident objectives (i.e. methods to control and extinguish fires).
  • Supports the work of team members.
  • Records and communicates emergency preparedness-related records and metrics.
  • Implements emergency preparedness internal policies.
  • Monitors budget deviations to control costs.
  • Develops emergency response pre-plans relating to building layouts, fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, and alarms.

Responsibilities Contd.

  • Identifies risks and mitigates life-safety concerns.
  • Relays instructions and information quickly and accurately. 
  • Troubleshoots fire alarm system and fire suppression system issues.
  • Plans and participates in off-site training.
  • Maintains all site fire protection and fire suppression systems.
  • Performs general inspection, testing, and maintenance on emergency response equipment.
  • Maintains equipment compliance (DOT, PHMSA, API, NFPA).
  • Helps with fire investigations to find the root cause and origin.
  • On a 24-hour basis, responds to emergencies.
  • Prepares and analyzes damage assessments following disasters or emergencies.
  • Participates in emergency response drills and exercises.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with 3+ years of experience in one or more of the following fields: Industrial or Municipal Emergency Response (Fire, Rescue, HazMat, etc.), Fire Protection or Suppression systems.
  • Maintains all required certifications, such as, emergency medical care, firefighting, and fire prevention.
  • Experience as Emergency Management (i.e as a First Responder or Emergency Response Team Member).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, API and similar regulations governing fire safety, fire protection, and emergency response.
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including weekends and holidays, and overtime.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of the Industrial fire and emergency services industry.
  • Experience in a continuous flow manufacturing or industrial environment, working with automated equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in emergency management, fire science, fire and safety engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience developing procedures.
  • Experience as an Officer of a fire department of comparable size or larger with Industrial firefighters.
  • Current EMT-Basic certification.
  • Firefighter I and/or II certifications.
  • Industrial Firefighting certifications.
  • State and federal regulations and standards governing emergency preparedness and response activities, including Texas Division of Emergency Management and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
  • Incident Command System training (ICS) through ICS 400.
