Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) is seeking a Shift Superintendent to join the Operations team for the Golden Triangle Polymers (GTP) facility located in Orange, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up.
The Shift Superintendent will oversee or conduct many critical activities that require 24/7 leadership coverage, including addressing personnel issues, response to emergencies, and environmental reporting. This position will utilize necessary resources to ensure safe, compliant and reliable operations. The Shift Superintendent will interact with all levels and departments at the site as well as potential third parties and outside entities.
This position will be required to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights and weekends and will report to the Operations Manager.
This position will be assigned to the project location in Orange, TX and will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations. #HPCP
Responsibilities
- Work with Plant Operating Units to ensure safe, reliable operations as well as maintain environmentally compliant operation of the site.
- Oversee and provide work direction to contract maintenance and shift maintenance employees.
- Ensure proper notifications and communication for compliance and safety reporting.
- Ensure proper documentation of Joint Venture agreement obligations.
- Provide leadership across shifts on nights and weekends to support ongoing operations, GTP culture, safety and reliability.
- Communicate with plant leadership team and site leadership on plant issues and ongoing operations such as outages, incidents, and production.
- Support roll-out and implementation of special plant wide initiatives.
- Serve as command center liaison for the facility on nights and weekends to ensure the EOC is staffed, and the on-call personnel are notified as needed.
- Work with operating units to ensure maintenance needs are met and make call outs as conditions dictate.
- Coordinate operating issues between units, prioritize maintenance, and responses when there are resource limitations.
- Participate in commissioning and startup meetings throughout commissioning and start up.

- Support clear communication and support of Simultaneous Operations and EHSS transition.
- Incident Command as needed to respond to incidents.
- Serve as liaison for security issues.
- Approve and ensure receipt of after-hours deliveries.
- Address discipline issues requiring immediate attention.
- Support and initiate community alerts as necessary.
- Serve as initial point of contact for regulatory agency visits or calls as well as neighboring complaints on nights and weekends ensuring on-call personnel are notified.
- Act as safety resource for outages, turnarounds, commissioning and startup, process upsets as required. Write permits as needed for off plot areas.
- Serve liaison for Fire and Safety Specialist in managing on site injuries and coordination of medical aid and communication.
- Provide leadership severe Weather and/or Damage Assessment Teams.
- Ensure severe weather updates are communicated to operations for any appropriate action.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must have at least 10 years of Operations, Maintenance, EHS or Technical experience in a petrochemical or refining manufacturing facility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Emergency Response Team experience.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Operations or maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility.
