Introduction
We are seeking a Senior Process Controls Engineer to join the Technical Team for the new Golden Triangle Polymers facility located in Orange, TX that will be operated by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operation of a new plant from the ground up. This position will transition to ongoing operations following commissioning and startup with an expected commitment through stable start-up operations.
The Senior Process Controls Engineer provides support and lifecycle management for DCS and APC systems for the site. The position works closely with Operations and provides support for DCS and APC related maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization and project implementation so the producing assets can run safely, efficiently, and reliably. Initially, this position will be focused on Operational Readiness, ensuring the plant is properly commissioned and supporting a safe, orderly, and timely start-up. Following start-up, the job functions will transition to a more traditional role characterized by normal plant operations. #HPCP
Responsibilities
- Surveys processes throughout the plant and develops benefits studies with process control improvement recommendations. Focuses on high-value, large impacting efforts.
- Champions and leads process control projects from idea creation to final commissioning.
- Compiles a team of different disciplines to review and advance process control improvement projects.
- Designs and implements regulatory and advanced control strategies in the DCS.
- Designs and implements new advanced control applications (e.g. Aspentech DMC) and is responsible for maintenance throughout the life of the applications.
- Provides guidance and work direction for less-experienced process control staff, as needed.
- Leads troubleshooting efforts related to process control problems. Offers guidance to other team members related to troubleshooting
- Develops site standards and best practices for process control strategy development and implementation.
- Creates new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) unique to the control applications and uses KPI results to design control improvements on existing applications.
- Analyzes plant data to create models and regressions used in process control strategies.
Creates offline optimization tools related to process control strategies. - Supports small, medium, and large capital and expense projects with process control impact.
- Designs control strategies for projects.
- Develops process control training material for operations and engineering staff.
- Creates dynamic simulations for control strategy development and testing.
Required Qualifications
- Solid project management skills related to process control items
- Controller tuning and control system configuration
- Designing and implementing process control strategies
- Experience in the petrochemical industry
- Experience working on DCS and/or advanced control application platform
- Designing site-wide optimization strategies
- Willing to mentor less-experienced engineers and control staff
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft applications
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
Ability to interact effectively with internal/external organizations, consultants, and vendors - A self-starter with the ability to multi-task
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Proficient in reading and understanding design documents such as P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, schematics, and Booleans
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with commissioning/start-up
- Experience with Emerson DeltaV Control System
- At least 3 years of experience with Aspen DMC
- Experiene leading an APC optimization in an ethylene unit
- Lifecycle management experience
- Chemical engineering degree
