Description:

 

The Control Systems Technician is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the Pasadena Plastics Complex’s process control hardware equipment. Also engages in application work on plant process computer systems involving problem diagnosis, repair, design revision and installation.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly PMs on the DeltaV Distributed Control Systems, Modicon, Triconex and Allen-Bradley PLCs to maintain the integrity of the system.
  • Leads the execution of MICE Instrumented Protective Systems (IPS) to maintain the integrity of the system. These duties can be required outside of outages as well as during outages.
  • Installs hardware associated with upgrades or modifications of process control equipment
  • Assists in checkout of instrument control loops in existing plants or plant expansions and works with contractors to insure proper installation
  • Debugs equipment and recommends modifications as required for reliable low maintenance operation
  • Performs maintenance service repair on control systems hardware
  • Performs software program modifications on computer and microprocessor systems such as Delta V DCS, Modicon and Triconex PLCs.
  • Provides technical assistance to instrument and electrical crafts with problems associated with conventional types of instrumentation
  • Performs repairs on electronic card modules, both analog and digital
  • Consults with operations and maintenance personnel to determine remedies for problems associated with malfunctioning control system instrumentation and recommends corrective action
  • Recommends new control system equipment to accommodate process modifications
  • Assist Control Systems Specialists and I/E engineers with design and implementation of projects
  • Provides 24-hour Control Systems support of Operating Units during upsets as well as outages.
  • Provides 24-hour on call Control Systems support

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a two-year associates degree in Instrumentation, Electronics or similar from a Trade school or Junior College with a minimum of one-year experience in maintaining DeltaV Control Systems and or PLC systems hardware including troubleshooting/repairing processors, input/output and communication cards OR a high school diploma with a minimum of 5 years of applicable experience such as maintenance service work performed on DeltaV Control Systems and or PLC systems equipment
  • Must have a basic understanding of electronic theory and digital logic system
  • Must be self-motivated with a positive professional attitude.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable in Chemistry
  • Familiar with process type of control instrumentation
  • Working knowledge of Management of Change (MOC), the Safety and Loss Manual, Process Safety Management Program and the Health and Hygiene Manual
  • Working knowledge of SAP modules
  • Good communication skills: written, verbal, and presentation
  • Good understanding of the PPC organization and systems
