We are seeking a talented individual to be our IEC Engineer at our facility in Pasadena, TX, to provide instrument, electrical, and controls engineering expertise for supporting day to day maintenance and operations, developing and implementing small I&E reliability projects, and providing I&E Turnaround and capital project support. The selected candidate will recognize, utilize, and follow CPChem’s Tenets of Operation, Operational Excellence, Work Processes, and Safety/Process Safety practices and procedures, in addition to following and adhering to applicable codes and standards including but not limited to CPChem, NEC, and NFPA.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct failure and reliability data analysis.
  • Develop IEC improvements and optimization based on operating necessity.
  • Resolve and plan for obsolescence issues concerning the facilities instrumentation, electrical, and control systems.
  • Design and execute smaller maintenance/reliability-type projects including modification and/or addition to facilities DCS, PLC, field instrumentation and control, motor control systems, and process analytical systems.
  • Development of maintenance and reliability programs and procedures.
  • Maintain an effective rapport with Maintenance, Operations, Field support, and Project Engineering groups.
  • Responsible for mentoring co-ops and new hires.
  • Responsible for root cause failure analysis and recommendations and implementation of modifications. of equipment and procedures to prevent reoccurrence as needed.
  • Provide maintenance support and specification of 480 VAC motors and controls.
  • Provide maintenance support and specification of AC and DC variable speed drives.
  • Provide maintenance support and specification of plant process instrumentation.
  • Follow Electrical Safe Work Practices (NFPA 70E)
  • Ability to interpret the National Electric Code
  • Follow plant specific practices, standards, guidelines, and procedures for preparation of estimates, scopes, specifications, design, and other deliverables.
  • Develop hardware, software, functional and user specifications for IEC systems and associated components.
  • Evaluate all IEC aspects of engineering to ensure all project objectives including safety, technical correctness, budget, constructability, schedule, maintainability, and operability are met.
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines/departments, customers, and vendors/suppliers to ensure successful development and execution of projects.
  • Review and approve IEC specifications, drawings, and other documentation; assist in compiling construction packages.
  • Provide field support, and participate in check out, commissioning and start up.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or similar
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a petrochemical manufacturing facility including related instrument and electrical maintenance/reliability engineering experience.
  • Experience with specification and sizing of control valves, valve actuators, and transmitters.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and be able to evaluate and prioritize multiple tasks to ensure alignment with plant goals while acting with a sense of urgency (when required).
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and work with all levels of the organization including operations, technical, plant management, contractors, vendors, and business unit personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolutions skills.
  • Proficiency in all standard MS Office products, and SAP Plant Maintenance and Project Management Modules.
