Purpose/Introduction

This position supervises and directs the activities of a group of engineers and specialists in the Process Engineering and Process Controls group supporting all process areas at the Pasadena Facility. 

Responsibilities

  • Role models and promotes Our Journey to Zero (OJTZ) through application of the Tenets of Operation, the Operating Hierarchy, Life Saving Rules and by committing to continuous improvements in pursuit of zero Personnel Safety, Process Safety or Environmental incidents.
  • Plans, prioritizes, coordinates, and aligns the work group’s activities to ensure effective technical support is provided to the responsible process areas.
  • Provides engineering resources for Process Safety activities, including PHAs, incident investigations, and closure of action items resulting from these activities.  Ensures on-time completion of action items to maintain compliance.
  • Provides technical support for day-to-day and long-term operation of the responsible process area.  This support includes troubleshooting, process optimization, process studies, planning and conducting test runs, executing expense projects, completing data and engineering analyses, conducting benchmarking studies, alarm management and rationalization, advanced process controls improvements, and leading PBD and other continuous improvement efforts. 
  • Partners with the projects group and operations to develop annual Capital Budget for the responsible process areas.

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Oversees the optimization of lifecycle planning for multiple DCS and PLC control systems.
  • Provides support engineering resources for turnarounds including preparation and execution phases, working closely with TA leadership to ensure alignment and success.
  • Provides mentorship and general oversight for the group to ensure technically correct and feasible solutions.
  • Supports process units by providing resources to troubleshoot control related issues impacting operations.
  • Supervises the preparation of process designs, economic analysis and initial front end engineering and screening (CPDEP Project Phases 1, 2) of expense and capital projects including scoping, preliminary analyses, process engineering and economics for the responsible process area, as required.
  • Supervises team to ensure maximum contribution and continued technical and professional development, including fair and consistent administration of facility and company policies, training and development, maintaining work group expertise, developing goals and objectives and conducting performance appraisals against the goals and objectives, mentoring, and consistent coaching.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • A minimum 7 years of engineering experience.
  • Experience with polyethylene loop technology.
  • Knowledge of industry and Company design codes and practices, inherently safe design practices, process safety, pressure relief systems, and a commitment to personnel safety.
  • Ability to effectively work with Operations, Maintenance, co-workers, technical services, plant management and the business.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and reach consensus and agreement with various work groups.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Successful candidate should be a self-starter with above average planning and organizational skills.
