Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips is currently seeking a Sr. Materials & Corrosion Engineer to join the Central Engineering organization in The Woodlands, TX headquarters location. The Senior Material & Corrosion Engineer is responsible for providing subject matter expertise in the fields of materials, corrosion prevention and welding, as well as maintaining existing company standards and developing new company standards. As a SME in the Central Engineering Group, this individual will engage with all levels from site stakeholders to upper management to champion positive change. This role provides the opportunity to share technical knowledge and work in a collaborative environment on technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides impactful, business results-oriented leadership in a team-based manufacturing environment.
  • Aligns work with business needs and relate technical expertise to business objectives.
  • Leads and collaborates with cross-functional project teams.
  • Maintains, develops and champions written company standards and work processes.
  • Champions process safety and provides formal training programs to junior staff engineers.
  • Deploys industry best practices and processes for selecting materials (metallic and nonmetallic) for pressurized equipment and welding filler metals.
  • Develops and implements corrosion prevention strategies.
  • Facilitates equipment failure analysis reports and communicates shared learnings.
  • Specifies and reviews WPS/PQRs.
  • Applies functional knowledge of thermal spray coatings/processes; inorganic and organic coatings; insulation; brittle fracture assessment and FFS methodologies.
  • Applies practical knowledge of ASME Section VIII, B31.1, B31.3; relevant API Standards, NACE, NBIC, AWS and advanced NDE techniques, such as AE, PECT, PAUT, EMAT, TOFD.
  • Provides industry knowledge of heat treatment, corrosion prevention, API 571 damage mechanisms and welding of iron-based materials; duplex stainless steels; nickel-based and heat resisting alloys; pressure vessels, piping, tanks.
  • Applies knowledge of Cathodic Protection systems for buried piping systems.
  • Reviews hot tap stopple techniques and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering or related degree.
  • Minimum of 1O years' experience supporting refinery or petrochemical plants and fixed equipment inspection programs in materials selection, corrosion prevention and failure analysis.
  • Demonstrate ability to influentially lead successful company-wide change initiatives.
  • Demonstrate ability to collaborate with others to develop practical written company standards and work processes.
  • Demonstrate track record of making successful presentations to senior management on impactful technical issues.
  • Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis Methodology (RCFA), FMEA, and Risk Evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active in industry technical groups, such as, MTI, ASME, AWS, NACE/AMPP, API, AFPM.
  • Experience supporting Ethylene unit operations including cracking furnace operations.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) Metallurgy, NACE Certified Corrosion Specialist, CWI.
  • Experience with the following Software Applications: MS Office Suite, Meridium TM, PV EliteTM Caesar II TM, E2G Plant Manager FFS.
  • Diverse experience in plant maintenance, reliability or operations groups.
