Purpose/Introduction

The primary responsibility of the Turnaround Coordinator is to assist the Turnaround Manager in planning and executing turnaround (TA) activities.  The turnaround coordinator is a key member of the TA team working towards the success of turnaround events that use CPChem’s TA work process for planning and execution.  This position is one of leadership in planning, pre-turnaround, and turnaround execution such that the ultimate goals of the turnaround project are met (safe, meet budget, schedule, production startup).
Responsibilities for the turnaround coordinator are as follows:

Responsibilities

  • Leading and assisting the turnaround manager in presenting core team meetings.
  • Responsible for planning and coordinating the execution of the turnaround event.
  • Assist the turnaround manager in tracking, meeting, and ensuring all TAPS deliverables are completed within the due dates.
  • Leads diverse plant teams in development and documentation of key execution plans for Logistical Plan (real estate, off-site pipe and equipment, rental equipment, temporary power, housekeeping, IT), Start of Work Plan and Mobilization Plan.  Also actively participates as a turnaround team member for other execution plans being developed for operations, health & safety, environmental, quality, controls, etc.
  • Leads planning and scheduling efforts through managing contractors and company employees to minimize downtime (lost profit opportunity during execution) while meeting project objectives with best practice tools.  Ensures all planning and scheduling is integrated and agreed by all stakeholders through quality reviews and documenting consensus.
  • Participates in development of turnaround project risk and appropriate mitigation plans.
  • Leads constructability reviews of integrated expense and capital scope seeking opportunities to reduce risk, share resources, optimize time, etc.

Ensures extra work after the scope freeze date follows our add-on procedure and is properly planned/scheduled.

  • Participates in contracting and material procurement strategies such that safe contractors and quality materials are available when needed to meet required timing.
  • Coordinates contractor/company staffing for turnaround events (onboarding, training, logistics, etc.) and leads coordination of all activities with operations during turnaround event to meet schedule and cost as planned. 
  • Ensures proper updates to schedule and cost are given by the designated time during turnaround events so that the turnaround leadership team can make necessary adjustments to meet event objectives.
  • Assist in developing post turnaround report, capturing lessons-learned and closing all financial claims and commitments in timely manner.
  • Oversee and guide the development process of the worklist in TAPLAN to meet all deliverables.
  • As a member of the corporate turnaround leadership team, the coordinator will participate in turnaround improvement initiatives, peer reviews, developing and sharing of standard work practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma/GED with at least 10 years of plant experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment both internally and externally
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated experience managing aggressive milestone compliance / targets

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with turnarounds in a manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of Ethylene Plant and/or Plastics Plant experience with specific emphasis in turnaround planning
  • Supervisory experience with large petrochemical projects and turnarounds
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a project controls group
  • Proficient in SAP
