Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a DCS Control Technician to join our team at our facility in Port Arthur, Texas.  The DCS Control Technician to work closely with the daily operation of the olefins, cyclohexane and utility units and to provide resources for project implementation. 

Responsibilities

  • Improve, develop, and implement basic control strategies and HMI graphics that improve plant safety, profitability, and efficiency.
  • Support units by providing maintenance for the PLC SIS systems and troubleshooting for control related issues that impact operations as related to these systems.
  • Create and provide instruction for training on control subjects as needed.
  • Provide support & security for the PLC and SIS systems and networks including occasional off-hour callouts.

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Maintain spares system and parts inventory.
  • Review and manage the documentation of system standards, control procedures, PLC and SIS system architecture and small control/logic schemes.
  • Provide work direction for contract or company system technicians and personnel as required.
  • Participate in hazard analysis studies and plant improvement teams as needed.
  • Support the expense and capital budget process by providing input when required.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 3 years control systems or instrumentation experience providing day to day support in a petrochemical plant or refinery.   
  • A familiarity with implementing and maintaining secure industrial control system networks.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Strong systems skills including:
    • Field Instrumentation
    • SIS logic solver hardware and software (i.e. configuration and troubleshooting)
    • PLC hardware and software (i.e. configuration and troubleshooting)
    • Communications protocols – Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU and TCM TSAA
    • Windows Operating System
    • HART – Highway Addressable Remote Transducer

Required Qualifications (Continued)

  • Knowledge and familiarity of ANSI/ISA 84 or IEC 61511 standards and requirements.
  • Effective communication skills - verbal and written.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills (e.g. troubleshooting).
  • Ability and willingness to work with Operations personnel.
  • Must have willingness to mentor and train plant personnel on control and safety system related topics.
  • Knowledge and experience with basic reliability concepts with an ability and willingness to execute preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to develop site standards, participate in standards reviews and document best practices.
  • Ability and willingness to develop PM procedures and equipment surveillance strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or Certificate in Control Systems or Instrumentation.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining RTP and Wonderware systems.
  • Triconex and/or RTP configuration and troubleshooting experience.
