Purpose/Introduction

We are seeking an Operations Engineer to join the team at the Port Arthur Facility. This position is in the Operations Department under the direction of the Aromatics Superintendent.   #HPCP

Responsibilities

Personal & Process Safety

  • Visible safety leader on the unit improving awareness and implementing solutions to improve personal and process safety.
  • Champion compliance of key safety processes for the unit such RAPs, MOC's, JSA's, critical procedure audits, procedure compliances, etc.
  • May be assigned Team Leader responsibilities for Incident Investigations.
  • Understand unit PHA and support IPL testing requirements.
  • Provide technical support to mitigate degradation of an IPL.

Environmental

  • Work closely with the Environmental group to understand permit requirements.
  • Provide training and tools to operators to assist in operating within permit requirements.
  • Work to meet site environmental compliance goals.

Business

  • Interaction with Business Group through S&OP meetings and weekly calls.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring unit fixed and expense budget.

Process Improvement

  • Coordinate with maintenance and process monitoring technical resources to investigate equipment problems and implement corrective strategies.
  • Monitor daily unit operations.
  • Lead unit troubleshooting efforts.
  • Provide input into planned maintenance activities.
  • Oversee test runs and special projects.
  • Coordinates the development of process improvement studies and projects.
  • Works with process monitoring to ensure equipment is operated at its most efficient.
  • Assist with benchmarking studies and coordinates development and execution of gap closure plans.
  • Lead improvement teams for the unit as necessary.
  • Provide leadership to the unit in selected area of responsibility.
  • Provide information, expertise, and analysis on capital and special projects, collaborating with support groups as needed.
  • Assist TA coordinator in TA planning and contribute to TA activities.
  • Assist the Aromatics Superintendent in special functions such as unplanned shutdown planning, capital and expense projects, cost objectives variance, preparing and reviewing of SOP's, etc.
  • Assist other Operations Engineers as required.  
  • Steward and champion Asset Improvement team’s philosophy and goals into work practices.
  • Work with corporate technical team to find solutions to plant problems.
  • Engage with contractors that support plant operations including service vendors and chemical suppliers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Must have at least 3 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication, written and verbal skills.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
  • Be able to demonstrate skills in evaluating and prioritizing work to ensure alignment with the department’s goals.
  • Must be able to learn or be proficient in utilizing various computer applications, including SAP, Excel, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in Aromatics, Utilities, Terminal, or Docks
