Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Sustainability Engineer/Specialist to join our team at the Port Arthur facility in Port Arthur, Texas.  The Sustainability Engineer/Specialist is responsible for leading all sustainability initiatives for the Port Arthur site and some additional sustainability activities for the Orange and Conroe (smaller) sites. The position is responsible for the successful design and coordination of the sustainability strategy and maintaining the facilities’ roadmaps to adhere with Company policies, procedures, and initiatives.  The successful candidate should be able to build strong relationships and demonstrate leadership among environmental professionals, plant personnel, business management, EHS, legal, and corporate leadership. This individual must manage multiple priorities concurrently and drive to completion environmentally focused projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead digitization and transformation of sustainability data to the corporate enterprise management systems including but not limited to GHG, Air, Water, Waste, etc.
    • Serve as an IT and Process Control liaison for Environmental
    • Review detailed design and collaborate with other Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to standardize calculations for all media
    • Monitor / track sustainability indicators.
    • Develop reports / presentations to communicate the effectiveness of metrics to stakeholders.
  • Develop and periodically review the facilities’ sustainability plans / roadmaps to support Company initiatives including regulatory plans such as pollution prevention, waste minimization, Plastics Best Management Practices (OCS®), etc.
  • Update, maintain, and support environmental compliance data management system (Stack Vision).
  • Serve as the SME for GHG, Cap & Trade, Air Emissions Inventory and Toxic Release Inventory programs

Responsibilities (Cont)

  • Serve as SME for Environmental Operational Parameters to provide oversight and development of dashboards to demonstrate on-going compliance.  
  • Participate in Trade Associations and interact/network with other industry representatives as necessary.
  • Review and interpret proposed/pending sustainability regulations and forecast their impact on plant operations.
  • Perform any other environmental related work as assigned by the Environmental Superintendent.  

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental management, or other scientific or EH&S related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience working within a chemical or refinery plant environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, interface and provide influence and leadership at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven record of leading teams to project completion with superior facilitation skills.
  • Self-motivated (operating with minimal day-to-day work direction) with excellent written, organizational, and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience in developing systems to ensure sustainable compliance and drive efficiencies in environmental compliance requirements.
  • Chemical plant experience in ethylene and polyethylene processes.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of environmental data management system (StackVision).
  • Knowledge and understanding of the manufacturing units and processes to which the regulations and requirements must be applied.
