We are currently seeking for a qualified individual to join our team as a Construction Specialist at the Sweeny/Old Ocean Facility located in Sweeny, Texas.  This position reports to the Contract Services Superintendent and will be responsible for providing leadership and subject matter expertise to execute Scaffold, Insulation, Abatement, Coatings, Fireproofing, Refractory, and Cooling Tower activities. Plans, prioritizes, coordinates and aligns the work group activities to ensure that effective services are delivered. Emphasizing safety, productivity, and cost control to contractors each shift.  Specialist will interface with people in roles ranging from crafts to management.  Some work may be required to be followed during outage or on shift. This position will follow a 4/10 work schedule.


  • Advocate for safety including demonstrated support of Tenets of Operation and Process Safety Management initiatives.
  • Participates in Job Safety Analyses and the development of safety action plans for high-risk work.
  • Assigns and directs work activities to meet schedule requirements and emergent operational issues.
  • Ensures that all maintenance work is performed in compliance with company standards and all applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Daily reporting on schedule compliance and execution.
  • Ensure that Company OE System requirements, Global OE Procedures, and Safety & Health Best Practices are applied to projects and daily maintenance, as applicable.
  • Provide assistance to operations, maintenance, environmental, safety, and plant management in identifying, prioritizing and executing projects and daily maintenance.
  • Supports the maintenance planning & scheduling process.
  • Conducts field walks to oversee and verify contractor work while engaging in daily activities

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the manufacturing industry, preferably within the petrochemical business.
  • Strong Commitment to Safety including Contractor Safety.
  • Individual must learn or be proficient in utilizing various computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Must demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to read and understand isometric drawings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Scaffold, Insulation, Abatement, and Coatings
  • Experience in Fireproofing and/or Refractory Linings
  • Experience in Cooling Tower construction or repairs
  • Experience in SAP
  • Knowledge of OSHA’s scaffolding regulations
  • Supervisory Experience
