Purpose/Introduction
We are seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join our team at our Sweeny/Old Ocean Facilities in Sweeny, TX. In this role, the Control Systems Engineer will support both Capital and Expense projects, provide day to day software and hardware support to ensure that the Control Systems meets system design specifications and standards and assist with commissioning efforts of new and/or upgraded control equipment.
Responsibilities
- Project Support:
- Work with Engineering Contractors to accomplish project goals
- Review or develop DCS hardware and software scope
- Review and comment on engineering design documents including but not limited to Instrument Loop Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Cabinet Layouts, P&IDs etc.
- Review or develop Control Narratives, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Modbus Mappings, IO Assignment, etc.
- Responsible for ensuring that the DCS (e.g. I/Os, DCS controllers, control schemes, graphics, alarms, etc.) is configured and installed per design
- Support Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) e.g. LOPA
- Support Alarm Documentation & Rationalization (Alarm D&R)
- Witness or Conduct FAT and 3rd Party Systems FAT (e.g. Triconex, Allen Bradley, Bently Nevada, etc.)
- Support Site Acceptance Test (SAT)
- Support and Coordinate with Reliability / Instrumentation / Electrical Team, Construction Team on Loop Checks and Equipment Startup / Commissioning
Responsibilities (continued)
- Perform/coordinate Control Systems software and hardware upgrades
- Work closely with the IT/ICS group on cyber security initiatives and adhere to ICS Network Security Policy
- Work closely with the Process Control engineers on APC initiatives
- Work closely with the Alarm Champion to implement new and updated alarms and adhere to Alarm Management Procedure
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering
- Must have at least 5 years of related experience in a Refining or Petrochemical Plant environment
- Experience in designing and implementing Control Systems software and hardware changes/upgrades
- Proficient in reading and understanding design documents such as P&IDs, Instrument Loop Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Control Narratives, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Functional Specifications, etc.
- Self-motivated, able to lead and influence others, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and demonstrate a professional attitude
- Strong Honeywell and/or Yokogawa DCS experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Honeywell DCS experience is preferred
- Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering Degree is preferred
- Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) Experience
