Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is currently seeking qualified Health and Safety Representative to join our team at our Sweeny/Old Ocean facility, which is located just south of Houston. 

As a member of the Health and Safety Team, the Health and Safety Representative will help improve Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) performance within the workplace.  The Health and Safety Representative will have a key role, while working with other EHS professionals, in evaluating program effectiveness and compliance; and will also communicate results to appropriate EHS and other staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an EHS department resource concerning Safety and Health related issues for an assigned area of responsibility
  • Participate in implementation of detailed, task level, day to day Health and Safety programs, utilizing the S&H work process, standards, and procedures
  • Ensure that Safety and Health related documentation is up-to-date and accessible to department personnel
  • Participate in on-boarding of new hires.
  • Initiate and support Management of Change (MOC) process for Safety and Health standards, rules and processes in a timely manner and ensure MOC closure
  • Develop EHS execution plans for shutdown work in the plant (planned & unplanned)
  • Participate in audits in the Health and Safety related areas
  • Assist in developing and achieving area or plant Health and Safety goals, such as eliminating injuries, reducing exposures, etc.
  • Assist in auditing of the Safe Behavior Process, including analysis of Behavior Based Performance processes
  • On call duty and other off shift work to meet customer requirements.  When on call, maintain the ability to respond to the Sweeny Complex within 90 minutes.
  • Provide direct field and technical health & safety support to the Sweeny Complex such as issuing Confined Space Entry Permits, checking equipment for NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material)
  • Serve as Industrial Hygiene asset for regulatory and company required monitoring and audits.
  • Perform elements of the site’s Exposure Assessment Program, including conducting industrial hygiene surveys, assisting in the execution of the annual IH sampling plan, calibration and maintenance of industrial hygiene air, radiation and noise sampling equipment.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert with regard to Personal Protective Equipment and potential Chemical exposures.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school Diploma or GED with at least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with Safety and Health regulations, rules and processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • The ability to work in an empowered team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a role as a Safety and Health Technician on a Turnaround.
  • Safety certification such as CSP, CIH or similar
