We are currently seeking a Lead Process Engineer to join our Process Engineering team at the Sweeny, Clemens & Old Ocean (SCO) Complex. This position supervises and directs the work activities of process engineers directly supporting two olefins (U22 and U24) units, a NGL unit, and the forthcoming alpha olefin (U81) unit. The successful candidate needs a strong technical background, ability to take initiative, exhibits strong safety leadership and have excellent communication skills. The selected candidate will report to the Process Engineering Superintendent. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and align the work group’s activities to ensure that effective engineering services are provided to operating units at SCO, the Olefins SBU and Olefins Technical Support.
  • Provide strategic and daily technical operations support including, but not limited to the following: troubleshooting, optimization, process and feasibility studies, test runs, data analysis, continuous improvement efforts/opportunities and other facility initiatives.
  • Supervise the preparation of process designs, economic analysis and initial front-end engineering and screening  of capital projects including scoping, preliminary analyses, process engineering and economics for supported unit(s).
  • Provide engineering resources for process safety activities (PHAs, Management of Change, Incident Investigations, etc.).
  • Ensure timely completion of action items assigned to work group.
  • Verify that the work of the group is technically correct and that deliverables are complete and accurate.
  • Coordinate process support for unplanned and planned outages and turnarounds.
  • Responsible for supervisory activities (e.g., training, development, mentoring, coaching, performance management, etc.) within the work group.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years of engineering experience in a petrochemical or refining environment
  • Ethylene unit process knowledge
  • Knowledgeable of industry and company processes, practices and design codes
  • Must work effectively with operations, maintenance, co-workers, plant management and SBUs. 
  • Must have the ability to resolve conflicts with other functional groups.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in hazard analysis, risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Experience with process simulation software.
  • Self-starter with exceptional planning and organizational skills.
  • Prior supervisory experience
