Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is seeking a Mechanical Reliability Specialist to join our team in the Technical Engineering group located at its' Sweeny Clemens Old Ocean (SCO) Facility in Sweeny, Texas.  This position would join the SCO Reliability Department and would be responsible for working closely with the Operations, Maintenance and Turnaround teams at the Polyethylene units.  This position would provide rotating equipment expertise, repair oversight and turnaround job management for the site. 

Responsibilities

  • Take an active role in all aspects of safety, including leading safety meetings for company and contract personnel, auditing jobs for compliance to established standards, and maintaining a proactive safety culture on job sites.
  • Take an active role in the resolution of bad actor equipment, including developing work scopes and documentation of repair reports.
  • Provide leadership or support as necessary to Maintenance, Operations, Projects and Procurement groups for troubleshooting and following repairs.
  • Provide detailed planning for scheduled unit outages.  Follow and update mechanical schedule during outages.
  • Develop and oversee execution of repairs to major rotating equipment, including establishing repair scopes, determining quality control requirements on repairs, and executing approved scopes.
  • Supervise mechanical contractors during scheduled outages.  Lead execution of rotating equipment repairs during outages working with engineering, contract resources, and maintenance and turnaround teams.
  • Perform quality control inspections in contractor shops on major mechanical repairs.  Work with vendor shops to determine appropriate repair scope necessary to maximize equipment life and minimize repair costs.
  • Assist Operations with startup and troubleshooting on rotating equipment.
  • Communicate equipment repair status through both written and verbal communications.
  • Develop and order mechanical parts for turnaround

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 10 years of mechanical experience (ideally combination of hands on and supervisory) in a refinery or petrochemical facility.
  • Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills for rotating equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the plant population.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to utilize SAP
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in the mechanical field
  • Experience with troubleshooting and overhauling Polyethylene equipment (Extruders, Reactor Circulation Pumps)
