Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a qualified candidate to join our Optimization Team as a Planning and Optimization Engineer. The Planning and Optimization Engineer reports to the Lead Process Optimization Engineer at the Sweeny/Clemens/Old Ocean (SCO) Complex located in Sweeny, TX. This position runs the feedstock selection process for the olefins units, supports sitewide economic optimization, manages regular business reports to Corporate and provides analysis to the Logistics, Finance and Operations teams as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Aspen Unified PIMS to determine the optimum feedslate for SCO olefins units.  Collaborate with operations and the Olefins SBU to reach the optimum feedslate
  • Perform Sweeny sitewide economic modeling through Aspen Unified PIMS to optimize feedstock balances among units
  • Provide economic analysis for the operating units and the Sweeny/Old Ocean Leadership Team as requested
  • Calculate and communicate Unrealized Business Opportunities (UBOs). Generate action plans and track to completion
  • Calculate Lost Production Opportunities and the Capacity Utilization report.  Must work with management to secure approval and then report them to corporate every month
  • Develop and present Sweeny/Old Ocean updates, UBOs, and Monthly Validation presentations to the Olefins SBU at the monthly S&OP/SBU meetings
  • Execute the Solomon world-wide olefins benchmarking study and provide analysis
  • Assist finance with developing the budgeted material balance
  • Support the closure of material balance gaps

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, EE)
  • 3+ years engineering experience in a chemical / refining facility
  • Must work effectively with operations, finance, logistics, co-workers, plant management, and the Olefins SBU. 
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with good planning and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ethylene unit process knowledge
  • Familiarity with PowerBI
  • Process modeling knowledge
