Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company (CPChem) is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineering Specialist position (primarily Microsoft Azure) to support the Global Infrastructure Server Operations team and the company’s Digital Transformation strategy efforts. We are seeking a passionate technologist who enjoys developing solutions that can have tremendous and positive impact. This is an individual contributor position reporting to the Supervisor Server Operations and is located in The Woodlands, TX, headquarters location.

 

The candidate should have a deep understanding of cloud networking, storage, and compute; knowledgeable with cloud-native services; and experience in operating dynamic, complex environments.  As the Cloud Platform Engineering Specialist, you will provide the required expertise to build and operate products with reliability and resiliency while iteratively improving service levels with automation, monitoring, and alerting tools using both Azure cloud ecosystem and various enterprise applications. In addition, you will collaborate with technologists across the company, and partner with various technology companies to develop strategically sound target state architectures for Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. 

 

 

This position is eligible for the current hybrid work model (split of remote and office-based days).

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, deploy, and manage Azure high performance, high availability solutions (IaaS, PaaS, etc.) that are secure, scalable, and reliable.
  • Deploy and manage monitoring, orchestration, automation, and configuration management tools (Azure DevOps, Terraform, Kubernetes).
  • Lead implementations of Microsoft Azure and its relevant build, deployment, automation, networking, and security technologies in cloud and hybrid environments.​
  • Partner with CPChem’s Digital Transformation team and external consulting resources to design and build CPChem’s infrastructure and operations foundation in the cloud and support the digital roadmap.
  • Design, install, manage, and maintain Microsoft Identity and Access Management products such as Azure AD, ADFS, Azure AD Connect, Conditional Access, Azure AD Proxy, SAML, and Active Directory Domain Services.​
  • Solve complex technical issues and develop solutions that extend service capabilities to meet business needs.
  • Assist Server Operations Supervisor with cloud adoption and establishment of best practices, governance, and risk mitigation. 
  • Optimize technical landscape that supports both legacy and modern deployments.
  • Mentor other team members to enhance departmental cloud technology skill levels and capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience providing IT administration and/or engineering services managing Windows and/or Linux Servers and Services. 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Azure Infrastructure Administration (includes Azure Networking, Azure Virtual Networks, Azure Network Security Groups (Firewalls), and general administration of Azure IaaS). 
  • Intermediate knowledge of cloud monitoring tools including Azure Log Analytics, Azure Monitor, and Application insights.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Azure CLI, PowerShell, ARM or Terraform Templates, and automated deployment tasks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Platform as a Service products such as Azure SQL, Web Apps, App Services, App Service Environment & Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Experience with planning and executing migrations from on-premises data centers to public cloud environments.
  • Developing and deploying solutions internationally.
  • Experience with managing small projects and leading initiatives with minimal direction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Interest in researching and experimenting with new technologies outside of core responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with emphasis on the ability to communicate effectively through clear, concise delivery coupled with listening attentively, valuing others’ perspectives, creating open dialogue in own areas of influence, and effectively conveying technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Good writing skills with the ability to write with accuracy, simplicity, and completeness while providing an appropriate level of detail for the intended audience.
  • Ability to gain the confidence and trust of others through principled business ethics, high integrity, follow-through on commitments, and adherence to procedures.
  • Ability to establish relationships that enhance cooperation and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, software engineering or similar discipline.
  • 10 years of experience providing IT administration and/or engineering services managing Windows and/or Linux Servers and Services. 
  • Professional Cloud Technical certification (Azure, AWS or GCP) 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in architecture, design, deployment, and maintenance of public cloud solutions with a focus on Microsoft Azure IaaS. 
  • Expert knowledge with cloud monitoring including Azure Log Analytics, Azure Monitor, and Application insights. 
  • Expert knowledge of Azure CLI, PowerShell, ARM or Terraform Templates, and automated deployment tasks.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Azure Security Center.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Azure DevOps configuration and Management.
  • Experience with securing and hardening of server environments.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
