Role Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP is currently seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our team at our headquarters location in The Woodlands, Texas.  The Corporate Industrial Hygienist is responsible for providing subject matter expertise, guidance, and consultation for the development and implementation of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health policies, standards, best practices, and processes, to manage and mitigate related Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health risks, and to assure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and international standards for Company employees and contractors.  Additionally, the Corporate Industrial Hygienist is responsible as a mentor and technical knowledge resource for building and influencing achievement of enterprise-wide Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health goals, objectives, and performance results aimed at reducing occupational health risks.

 

The Corporate Industrial Hygienist reports to the Corporate Occupational Health Manager and will provide global support to all CPChem and Affiliate Facilities and Product Line organizations on the anticipation, recognition, identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards as well as compliance with applicable regulations. 

 

 This position is eligible for the current hybrid work model (split of remote and office-based days).

Responsibilities

  • Providing subject matter expertise, guidance, and oversight of the Corporate Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health programs and procedures targeted at reducing occupational health risks, including developing and maintaining related training programs.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining written enterprise-level occupational health and industrial hygiene strategies, programs, policies, and procedures and facilitating the development of fit-for-purpose facility-level approaches to implementation.
  • Providing subject matter expertise, guidance, and consultation enterprise wide regarding the requirements promulgated by OSHA, EPA, TDSHS, NIOSH, ACGIH, and other governing entities that influence Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health programs and leading the development of practices that integrate such standards into routine workflows.
  • Providing subject matter expertise, guidance, and consultation for facility industrial hygiene monitoring plans, medical surveillance plans, radiation safety plans, and similar strategies.
  • Providing subject matter expertise, guidance, and consultation for, as well as conducting as needed, technical assessments such as chemical, noise, lighting surveys, radiation, indoor air quality, ergonomics, and other relevant workplace exposure assessments enterprise wide.
  • Providing subject matter expertise, guidance, and consultation as well as conducting as needed, qualitative and quantitative risk-analysis techniques, incident investigation methodologies, hazard assessments, change management approaches, and audits of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health programs.
  • Serving as a mentor and technical knowledge resource for building and stewarding competency in Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health staff enterprise wide.
  • Providing subject matter expertise, guidance, and collaborative effort with the Medical Department to ensure relevant medical surveillance programs are designed and completed as necessary.
  • Collaborating with CPChem Corporate and facility EHSS staff to integrate continuous improvement activities into local Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health programs and procedures, where appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, Nursing, Occupational Safety, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline
  • CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) certification
  • Must have at least 8 years of Industrial Hygiene and/or Occupational Health professional experience in petrochemical/chemical industry operations or other diversified multi-national manufacturing operations.
  • Must have demonstrated working experience with application of OSHA General Industry and EPA TSCA regulations, NIOSH and ACGIH standards, and associated regulatory interpretations/compliance directives/Federal Register Notices.
  • Must have demonstrated working knowledge and professional experience in industrial hygiene, ergonomics, ventilation, radiation safety and occupational health behavioral safety concepts.
  • Must have demonstrated working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative risk-analysis techniques, incident investigation methodologies, hazard assessments, change management approaches, and auditing of Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health programs.
  • Must have a passion for excellence, be customer focused and results driven, proficient in working with all levels of leadership, employees, and contractor personnel, and the ability to effectively organize and manage multiple tasks concurrently as well as work with limited supervision.
  • Must also be able to travel periodically, both domestically and internationally, up to 20% of the time. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated working experience with application of TDSHS regulations and standards
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification
  • Experience with Cority® Safety, Medical, and IH modules
