Purpose/Introduction

Seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Hazard Communication Specialist to support Chevron Phillips Chemical’s core product lines in the petrochemical industry. The Hazard Communication Specialist plays a crucial role in supplying information regarding the safety and regulatory compliance of our products. This position is responsible for authoring and maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and labels in accordance with various global regulatory hazard communication schemes. Additionally, the Hazard Communication Specialist role involves providing technical support and guidance by reviewing country-specific regulations related to hazard communication and assessing the impact of product classification and labeling according to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).  #HPCP

Responsibilities

  • Act as the company expert in hazard communication for SDSs
  • Author and maintain global SDSs
  • Collaborate with product lines and technology groups to define product composition
  • Work with product lines and technology groups to gather analytical data in support of registrations
  • Support efforts registering products with regional regulatory authorities
  • Coordinate processes to ensure compliance with regional and global hazard communication standards
  • Communicate as needed with regulatory agencies concerning hazard communication standards
  • Monitor SDS Inbox and the Hotline

Responsibilities (continued)

  • Manage SDS distribution process and work with IT and customer support to ensure the system is working properly
  • Act as company expert in hazard communication for global GHS labels, including but not limited to interactions with internal stakeholders such as product lines and distribution safety
  • Assist with Dangerous Goods transport classifications and ensure shipping labels contain all relevant information
  • Work with product line and transportation representatives to ensure correct international information is assigned to products
  • Provide training and support to internal employees on hazard communication and best practices
  • Support company efforts related to operational excellence and sustainability

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or closely related field
  • At least 5 years of petrochemical/chemical industry experience
  • Sound understanding of basic chemistry, biochemistry, toxicology or similar topics
  • Familiarity with regulations pertaining to Hazard Classification, Labelling and Dangerous Goods
  • Proficient with business related Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with the ability to make presentations to a broad audience
