Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (the Company), headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, is actively seeking an experienced Paralegal for an exciting position. As a member of the Company’s Legal and Public Affairs Department, the Paralegal - HR & Privacy will work at the direction of counsel, and/or collaboratively with other teams, on a variety of matters across the organization. The position will report to the Senior Counsel, HR, Benefits, and Privacy. Non-Attorney Legal Professionals are core to the work we do at CPChem. This group of employees provides critical support to all functions in the Legal Department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with legal research, docketing, project management, drafting and editing, and matter reporting
  • Prepare and/or assist with responses to subpoenas and discovery requests
  • Assist with preparation for depositions, arbitration and other hearings, and investigations
  • Assist with questions regarding garnishments, wage attachments, and QDROs
  • Prepare training materials and coordinate with stakeholders on training opportunities
  • Coordinate communications, schedule meetings, and provide full administrative support to the Company’s Privacy Governance Panel (“PGP”) and HIPAA Council
  • Assist privacy attorney and PGP with revisions/updates to privacy program documentation and progress of programmatic activities
  • Maintain working knowledge of Company privacy policies, notices, agreements, and procedures
  • Support assigned group of attorneys
  • Assist, as necessary, in the managing and coordinating outside counsel services
  • Review, provide feedback on, and advance outside vendor invoices for approval
  • Assist with management of sub-group budget
  • Assist in adhering to deadlines associated with assigned practice area
  • Assist with compliance with Company’s records retention schedule
  • Open/close matters and assist with issuing, tracking, and releasing legal holds, as appropriate
  • Assist in preparing materials for periodic and/or upward reporting relevant to practice area

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in related field (e.g., legal/paralegal studies, pre-law, criminal justice), plus a minimum of 5 years paralegal relevant/equivalent experience in law firm or corporate law department, or In lieu of degree, High School diploma/GED, plus a Paralegal Certificate and a minimum of 5 years paralegal experience in law firm or corporate law department
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Highly organized and strong time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive matters
  • Self-motivated with a desire to assume progressively more challenging responsibilities, and able to handle tasks with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, PowerPoint and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience of 3 or more years supporting labor, employment, benefits, and/or privacy law (or legal function)
