Purpose/Introduction
We are seeking a talented individual to become a Process Safety Engineer on our corporate process safety team. This position is open due to a recent retirement. The Process Safety Engineer will report to the Process Safety Technology Manager in the Corporate EHSS organization. This is a technical individual contributor role, with responsibilities that include providing quality risk assessment services, active participation in initiatives to increase the consistency and quality of risk assessments, and leadership of continuous improvement process safety initiatives in support of manufacturing facilities worldwide.
Initially this position will focus on becoming a Certified Process Hazard Analysis Facilitator and then facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), or other related risk assessments. Additionally, the successful will candidate will become the owner of one or more Global OE Standards.
Work location preference will be at the Orange Facility in Orange, Texas and will primarily facilitate PHAs at Golden Triangle, Orange, and Port Arthur. #HPCP
Responsibilities
- Certified PHA facilitator
- Work with our existing PHA facilitators to learn the skills.
- Scribe PHAs for these existing PHA facilitators.
- Facilitate PHAs independently.
- Global OE Standard Owner
- Become the standard SME.
- Be responsible for minor changes and comprehensive reviews, working with document development teams as appropriate.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of CPChem process safety work processes.
- Be a member of the Process Safety Best Practice Team.
- Participate in industry process safety organizations where there is value to CPChem.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of petrochemical manufacturing experience.
- Experience participating in process hazard analyses.
- Demonstrated strong technical and analytical skills, including technical understanding of petrochemical processes and unit operations.
- Demonstrated strong people skills, including demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and constructively resolve conflict.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to author technical reports and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to lead work process development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in operating a petrochemical unit daily.
- Experience with one or more of our major production platforms:
- Ethylene
- Polyethylene (Loop)
- 1-Hexene
