Chevron Phillips is currently seeking a Project Accountant to join the Finance organization, specifically the Ras Laffan Petrochemicals Project (RLPP) Project team located at The Woodlands, TX project office location. The Project Accountant is responsible for the financial/accounting support on the RLPP project. The primary responsibility of the position is to ensure project controls are established and maintained, ensure proper accounting of project costs, and to provide support for cost controls by tracking, forecasting, budgeting, and auditing spend. This position reports to the General Accounting Manager, Finance Department and will be on the RLPP Project Team.   


The RLLP project includes the engineering/design, construction and commissioning of a petrochemicals complex in Ras Laffan, Qatar to produce ethylene and high-density polyethylene (HDPE). 


  • Provide guidance to project team to ensure contracts include documentation requirements
  • Provide project support in SAP to build the WBS structure with alignment in the project spend system
  • Support Project Controls Manager in forecasting and budgeting
  • Participate in project cost reviews to discuss project status and provide financial information and support for spend and forecasts
  • Create requisitions and monitor open purchase commitments and balances in SAP
  • Validate/audit vendor invoices against contract terms
  • Review value of work done by major EPC contractors and book accounting accruals
  • Support monthly requirements including month-end close, financial and variance report, cost, and cash flow forecasts
  • Prepare monthly cost reports and cash calls for reimbursements
  • Assist with the implementation of cost management system (PIMS)
  • Communicate with general contractors/vendors to facilitate timely receipt of invoices
  • Reconcile project spend monthly in SAP and project tracking system
  • Maintain accounting for contractor retention
  • Perform ad-hoc project analysis to support forecasts for decision support
  • Prepare fixed asset ledger for asset creation in SAP
  • Provide SAP training to project team members, if needed
  • Advise in creating SAP security roles for the project
  • Provide reporting on project spend and project closure
  • Consult with Tax Department on sale/use tax guidance and compliance
  • Supervise 1- 2 employee or contractors for invoice processing support

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience related to capital projects accounting, plant accounting, fixed assets and/or cost accounting
  • Strong  Excel skills
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate with employees at all organizational levels
  • Should be a self-starter, be an active participant on teams, and proactively meet with project team to meet their need

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations, preferably chemicals or refining type operations 
  • Strong compliance and internal control background
  • Strong SAP skills
