Purpose/Introduction

The Finance Department aims to be a trusted partner that adds value by protecting the company’s financial integrity, guiding sound business decisions and offering enriching careers in a collaborative workplace.  Finance oversees financial planning and fiscal management for Chevron Phillips Chemical including accounting, financing activities, planning, and tax compliance. The department provides financial information, policy analyses and recommendations that drive sound decision-making.

 

This position is the financial/accounting support on the Joint Venture projects.  The primary responsibility of the position is to ensure project controls are established and maintained, ensure proper accounting of project costs, and to provide support for cost controls by tracking, forecasting, budgeting, and auditing spend. This position reports to the GTPC & RLPP Finance Manager

Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly financial requirements including month-end close, financial and variance report, and cash flow forecasts
  • Review value of work done by major EPC contractors and book accounting accruals
  • Prepare monthly cost reports and cash calls for reimbursements
  • Provide guidance to project team to ensure contracts include documentation requirements
  • Provide project support in SAP to build the WBS structure with alignment in the project spend system
  • Support Project Controls Manager in forecasting and budgeting
  • Participate in project cost reviews to discuss project status and provide financial information and support for spend and forecasts
  • Create requisitions and monitor open purchase commitments and balances in SAP
  • Validate/audit vendor invoices against contract terms
  • Communicate with general contractors/vendors to facilitate timely receipt of invoices
  • Maintain accounting for contractor retention
  • Perform ad-hoc project analysis to support forecasts for decision support
  • Prepare fixed asset ledger for asset creation in SAP
  • Provide SAP training to project team members when needed
  • Advise in creating SAP security roles for the project
  • Provide reporting on project spend and project closure
  • Consult with Tax Department on sale/use tax guidance and compliance
  • Support operational and enterprise readiness activities for the joint ventures’ commercial operations
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • 5 years accounting experience preferably in capital projects accounting, plant accounting, fixed assets or cost accounting experience
  • Strong compliance and internal control background
  • Proficient communication, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate with employees at all organizational levels
  • Should be a self-starter, be an active participant on teams, and proactively meet with project team to meet their needs
  • Successful candidate should possess strong SAP and Excel skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations, preferably chemicals or refining type operations
