Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is seeking to fill a position for “SAP Technical Supervisor”, a first-level leader in the SAP Technical team at their corporate headquarters in The Woodlands, TX. The selected individual should have strong technical depth and people management experience for managing and developing a strong team of technical SME’s with specialized expertise in Application development, Basis, and Integration technologies. 

 

The SAP Technical Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing application design, integration architecture and implementation of SAP solutions and related third-party solutions by collaborating with internal stakeholders, external partners, product owners, enterprise architecture, Infrastructure team, IT Security team and other technical teams within the organization.

 

The successful candidate should have a very strong technical background in the SAP ecosystem, understand SAP’s innovation strategies, art of the possible and best practices. The candidate is expected to have good understanding of SAP business processes related to master data and transactional data aspects. The candidate should be able to clearly communicate expectations to the team, plan and manage workload for the team, catch and mitigate risks, and translate technical concepts to non-technical (functional and business) stakeholders across multiple workstreams. The candidate should define and articulate the technical scope of work, provide accurate estimates and timelines for projects, and provide guidance and reviews for technical and architectural documentation.

 

Candidates are expected to have leadership experience or acumen, and capability to manage multiple employees, set strategic goals and objectives, navigate periodic performance reviews, develop, and coach for growth and improvement, and build strong relationships grounded in trust, transparency, and CPChem’s ICARE principles. They should have strong collaboration skills and capability to manage multiple SAP projects, execute proof of concept solutions, demonstrate continuous and systematic improvements around existing processes, set direction for robust architecture, basis and integration practices.

 

This position will follow CPChem’s current hybrid work model with a combination of remote and in-office days. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage, guide, and develop a team of subject matter experts, leveraging CPChem’s leadership elements and ICARE principles.
  • Provide technical oversite and guidance working closely with SAP SME’s, Integration developers and Basis experts, ensuring the adherence of best practices and architectural standards.
  • Accountable for designing, architecting, and maintaining SAP and third-party applications end-to-end architecture, including system landscape, integration points, API development, data flows, and security requirements.
  • Provide roadmaps and implementation plans for SAP projects, considering business priorities and technical feasibility for SAP applications not limited to S/4, ECC, BW, APO, GTS, Portal, Solution Manager, SAP BTP, SAP Integration Suite, SAP SaaS & PaaS solutions, and other third-party digital products.
  • Design, deploy and maintain SAP security standards adhering to IT Security including authentication and single-sign-on strategy for SAP GUI, SAP Web, HTTPS, Fiori apps and mobile applications for internal and external users
  • Develop and manage repository for applications architecture knowledge base with a good understanding of technical dependencies between solutions.
  • Develop relevant architecture diagrams from vendor provided architecture documents
  • Develop and maintain current and future-state architecture models, reference architectures for applications, and products that can be leveraged by all professionals across the organization.
  • Design high availability, backup and restore, monitoring and disaster recovery processes for SAP in cloud environments such as Azure, AWS, GCP.

  • Stay up to date with the latest SAP technologies and trends, evaluating their potential impact and recommending innovative solutions.
  • Support the implementation and integration of SAP systems, ensuring smooth deployment and minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Provide guidance and support to the team in project scoping, estimating project timelines, budget, risks, and resource requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project deployment, testing, and training activities.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for SAP technical inquiries, providing guidance and support to end-users, partners and customers.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into effective SAP solutions. Recommended innovative strategies for increasing return on investment (ROI) in critical business processes through modular solutions.
  • Provide strategic oversight and orchestration of 3rd party hosting and basis managed service partner including SLA monitoring, root cause analysis, plan reviews, and engagement management

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science / Engineering or related area. 
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience managing SAP Technical SME’s, providing strategic guidance
  • A combined 10 years of experience in SAP technical areas and at least 2-3 years of experience working in each of App Dev (ABAP/FIORI), Basis (including HANA) & Integrations aspects
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with SAP Technical Architecture
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in, running SAP on Cloud (AZURE, AWS, GCP, or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with SAP applications like SAP S/4 HANA, BTP, GTS, APO, BW, BOBJ, Portal, GRC, SolMan, ChaRM, SAP Fiori and related third party apps
  • Minimum 2 years of people development or leadership experience
  • Knowledge of application, data, security and other related architectures
  • Experience with integrating SAP or similar applications with on-prem and cloud solutions

Required Qualifications (continued)

  • Experience with solution evaluation through gathering technical details on application and integration architectures, to provide selection recommendations.
  • Must possess extensive knowledge of SDLC, like systems analysis, program design & specification, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work autonomously on complex assignments using independent discretion and judgment as well as transition quickly between projects and issues with minimal supervision.
  • High attention to detail regarding business requirements and technical solutions  
  • Effective interpersonal skills, collaboration, teamwork, and team building
  • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment and acquiring new skills
  • Communicates with honesty and kindness, creating an environment for others to do the same.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good understanding of SOA principles, integration products & technologies
  • Good knowledge of SAP functional and business process knowledge like P2P, O2C, etc.
  • Knowledge of core infrastructure including server (Windows/Linux Servers), Networking, storage, virtualization, backups, Active Directory
  • Experience working with SAP cloud technologies (SaaS/PaaS), Neo, Cloud Foundry, SAP BTP, SAP Integration Suite, Concur, Ariba, SuccessFactors and Fieldglass
  • Experience working on Microsoft Azure platform, and familiarity with related service
  • In-depth technical understanding of authentication mechanism, SSO, network security, firewalls
  • Good understanding of multiple development technologies and platforms
  • Understanding of API management, integration suites and Azure cloud services
  • Experience working within Agile and Waterfall methodologies
