Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking an experienced Industrial Toxicologist to join our team at our headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas. The Toxicologist will support product lines core business at Chevron Phillips Chemical Company efforts in product registrations and regulatory compliance items. #HPCP
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support by liaising with contract research organizations to coordinate and monitor testing requirements in support of global chemical management schemes like US EPA TSCA, EU and UK, South Korea, Australia, Canada, and China.
- Collect, maintain, review and update human health and environmental hazards, exposure information for new and existing products, raw materials, related process chemicals, by-products, and waste streams.
- Support review of Safety Data Sheets and assign appropriate hazard classifications according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) based on those building blocks adopted per region.
- Initiate and prepare risk assessments, white papers, advocacy documents and position statements related to Chevron Phillips Chemical Company products.
- Support company efforts related to operational excellence to identify and characterize human health and environmental hazards, exposures and risks for new and existing products, raw materials, related process chemicals, and by-products and waste streams.
- Facilitate Product Risk Management Teams to establish, maintain and document hazard, exposure and risk characterization (HERC) processes to determine appropriate risk management actions to reduce risks of products in commerce.
- Participate as a company representative in industry-wide trade and non-trade organizations, like the American Chemistry Council and other global chemical management efforts, technical committee meetings to address toxicology issues of interest to the organization
- Provide technical support for personal injury or product liability litigation.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in toxicology or related discipline (biochemistry, pharmacology, environmental toxicology) with at least 5 years of experience
- Experience participating in industry expert groups
- Experience with OECD and EPA toxicity testing guidelines
- Familiar using non-animal alternative approaches such as read across, in silico models like QSAR, and new approach methodology assays
- Familiar deriving occupational exposure limits
- Familiarity working within SAP database environments and Microsoft programs
- Strong interpersonal and effective written/verbal communication skills that allow dissemination of complex technical issues in a clear, concise manner to a variety of scientific and non-scientific audiences from a wide range of disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
- American Board of Toxicology DABT
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the petrochemical/chemical industry
